SYNOPSIS
The enemy of my enemy is my friend?
Lucille Amboise has been serving as Enforcer to the Vampire Council for centuries; a role she’s always taken extremely seriously. When an investigation causes her to cross paths with a human tracker who is hunting the same criminal, she decides to join forces, at least on the surface, to increase her chances of bringing the rogue vampire to justice.
Two things she didn’t count on: The growing connection between the human and her, and the ever growing risk of losing either her life or her heart if he finds out about her true nature.
Valentino Conti’s family has lived on the fringes of human society for generations. He comes from a long line of hunters, not of animals, but of so-called Nightwalkers. His latest investigation takes him to London, where he’s surprised to find a mysterious woman on the trail of the same murderous monster he’s after.
They begin to work together, but he can’t contain his curiosity: Who is his new partner, and what secrets she does she hide?
All books, including this one, in the Vampires of London series are stand-alone and can be listened to out of order.
EXCERPT
Valentino felt like he had woken up in the middle of a dream.
In his arms was a woman unlike any he'd met before. A flawless beauty, whose complexion was so perfect it could have been carved out of the finest Italian marble. During most of their past interactions, she had shown herself to act cold as well, but this last hour or so with her had changed everything.
Her eyes were no longer guarded. Her touch was filled with heat. And her lips…
Valentino had never known a taste more intoxicating.
Had someone told him even just two weeks ago that he would find himself here, in a strange vampire's house, making out with said vampire's sister, he wouldn't even have laughed. He might have been tempted to cut the messenger's head off.
But this wasn't an illusion. What they shared was real. And as bizarre as it was, he felt strangely at peace with how things had turned out between them.
So not all vampires were monstrous killers. They needed blood to survive, but some had found more ethical ways of procuring it than simply taking human lives for it. That had made his decision to fight for a chance with Lucille a lot easier.
There would be a period of adjustment, of course. Save for one miserable attempt in the past to let someone into his life, he had been a loner. Women had come and gone, but none had left a lasting impression.
And the same was true for Lucille as well, who had spent centuries on her own.
But ever since she'd surrendered to him earlier tonight, he knew that this was the right way forward. Against all odds, they shared something. Call it a connection, a sense of solidarity. Love?
