NEW RELEASE ~ Glitter by Abbi Glines

♦ ♦ ♦

Lies, Deceit, Vengeance, Desire, and Hate…wrapped up in a façade of all that sparkles and shines.

A pretty face, a fetching smile, a fabulous gown, a flutter of lashes at just the right moment – Miriam had been taught she must do all these things to land a wealthy husband. Much preferring the company of books to people, the only thing that stopped Miriam from fleeing to the countryside was her younger sister - who was counting on Miriam to make a match that would ensure she could care for her mother and sister properly.

He knew his duty to his title and he would do as was necessary.

Although Hugh Compton, Earl of Ashington, hadn’t wanted his father’s title at the age of nine and twenty, he gained it two years ago when his father died unexpectedly. The only good that had come of that was Hugh had been able to move his father’s wife to the dowager house.

Now it was time to marry.

Many disliked the arrogant Earl of Ashington but none so much as his brother.

After his mother was sent off as if she were trash to be disposed of, Nathaniel swore he’d even the score. With the intent of charming the boring Lydia Ramsbury right out of his brother’s arms, Nathaniel discovered it was a new face that had captured his brother's attention - a one Miss Miriam Bathurst.

Vengeance had never looked so sweet.

“Stop giggling. You sound ridiculous,” the older of the two girls said.

“You’re just sour Lord Ashington didn’t attend,” the younger girl replied.

“The night is young yet,” the mother added, as if this was, in fact, the issue the eldest daughter was having.

“Even if he does arrive, he will seek out Lydia Ramsbury. Everyone knows he has called on her and taken her for a ride in the park this week. I even heard she went to the opera with him and sat in his box.” The youngest girl seemed to be enjoying herself.

I wanted to roll my eyes, but then I was the one eavesdropping on a conversation that wasn’t mine to listen to. I should be rolling my eyes at myself.

“Nothing is certain,” the mother said with a tone that made me shiver slightly.

“Lydia Ramsbury would make a perfect countess,” the older girl said grudgingly.

“As would you,” the mother said.

It had been obvious that Lord Ashington had been interested in Lydia Ramsbury at the last ball. The next morning, his visit to me had been surprising. His abrupt departure had not been. Not that any of this mattered. I was not interested in the affairs of Lord Ashington. Not in the least. He would make a most difficult husband.

Feeling as if I were a lurker in their conversation, I took one last deep inhale of the lovely fragrance before turning to go back into the ballroom. Just as I stepped inside, I scanned the room for Aunt Harriet, but my gaze locked on Mr. Nicholas Compton. He was here and he was dancing… with Lydia Ramsbury.

Disappointment stung and I truly hated to admit it. When just a few days ago I was sure I didn’t care for him at all. Yet he was here and he wasn’t just dancing with anyone. He was dancing with the girl his brother had spent the most time with this week. I wasn’t naïve and I understood completely what was happening. Which was why the sting of disappointment.

Reality was something I had learned to face at a young age and I knew now that the brief attention I had received from him had nothing to do with me at all but with his brother. Mr. Compton was indeed playing a game. A vicious hurtful one meant not only to affect his brother but others along the way. I had thick skin and a blow such as that wouldn’t wound me the way it would others. Sheltered girls who had lived easy lives with security wouldn’t survive such a scandal.

It was in that moment, I decided I truly hated Nicholas Compton. He wasn’t interesting but spiteful and cold. I truly hoped Lydia Ramsbury was smart and didn’t fall for his charming smile and attractive face. There was something I disliked more than arrogance and it was cruelty.

Blog Tour ~ The Reclaimed Kingdom by Dana Claire

The Reclaimed Kingdom by Dana Claire

The Reclaimed Kingdom by Dana Claire Publisher: Chamberlain Publishing House (February 14, 2021)

Category: Young Adult, Fantasy/Romance Tour dates: April 9-May 31, 2021 ISBN: 978-1792361357 Available in Print and ebook, 310 pages The Reclaimed Kingdom

Description Reclaimed Kingdom by Dana Claire

The Legend is true. The Fear is real. Under the cruel ministrations of its Queen, the Kingdom of D’Land is in peril. With King Harrison away in foreign lands and neighboring Kingdoms unwilling to intervene, there is no one to protect the people from poverty, harsh punishment, and unreasonable rules of law – except for the Band of Brothers. Struggling with the death of her mother and the legendary Syphon powers she inherited, seventeen year old Dru wants nothing more than to escape her old life and join the motley crew of ruffians, pilfering from the rich to feed the poor and pay their taxes. She’s able to do just that disguised as a lad, and even when her nature is discovered, nothing changes – except for the way her friend Hawkin treats her. But Dru’s new world is overturned when she and the Brothers seize the treasures of a Prince who threatens to reveal her identity. Together, Dru and her chosen family must find a way to reclaim her destiny and bring balance to the Kingdom. If not, there may be no hope left for anyone.

Guest Review by Nora S.

The whole time that I was reading 'The Reclaimed Kingdom,' I kept being reminded of something that I just couldn't put my finger on. It took me a while to realize that the main character, Dru, who is a tomboy and a bit of a spitfire, reminded me so much of myself at that age.

Of course, I do not live in the fictional kingdom of D'Land but if I did, I would be happy to fight with the Band of Brothers like Dru does. Dru, who is seventeen, masquerades as a boy in order to fight with the Brothers, who are notorious for never taking in any girls. But most of the Brothers actually do know that she is a girl. She is just such a good fighter that they waive their rule.

Part of the reason that Dru is so skilled at combat is her power.  Dru is a Syphon, a person gifted with the ability to draw from the emotions of the people around her and use them, whether it is for her benefit or not.

It is while running with the Brothers that Dru stumbles upon a carriage that just happens to bear a prince. Prince Dodge, is the monarch of a neighboring land called D'Wales and he and Dru know each other, although he does not remember her.

See, Dru has more than one secret and this is what led her to run away from her old life and join the Brothers in the first place. Once the secret comes out, everything in Dru's life will be changed and her destiny will be in her own hands.

An excellent YA fantasy and one that I would recommend to readers of all ages. 'The Reclaimed Kingdom' by Dana Claire is not to be missed!

Chapter 24

I leaped at Hawkin, sending him staggering backward. He lost his footing, tripping over the steps as we crashed to the ground. I made sure to grab the wrist holding the assassin fang—even without poison it was deadly—and my grip coupled with the fall sent it clattering away out of reach. A few arrows struck the stone where he’d just been, and I heard a ceasefire called as we tumbled. As I suspected, the king wouldn’t risk firing with my body in the way. I landed on top of Hawkin, and for now, his eyes were his own, full of pain and desperation. The shock of his assault on Dodge was disruptive but not powerful enough to break the queen’s hold. The tendril that held him was quickly growing back, thickening and swirling as she reclaimed control.

“End it,” he managed to whisper, and I knew he was telling me to kill him before he was taken again. “Don’t let me hurt you, too.”

“Never. I love you.”

Advance Praise Reclaimed Kingdom by Dana Claire

"Ms. Claire has such a talent for imaginative magic systems. The Syphon in this series has abilities I have not encountered before. The ability to take emotions and how she deals with them are quite intriguing. In this story, Dru makes an interesting heroine with her contrasts of her life as a brigand and thief with her previous life. She is very much a Robin Hood character without falling into the tired tropes that can come with that. The male main characters are so different. Hawkin is intense and unrefined. Dodge is softer and somewhat of a dreamer. They are both fiercely loyal and capable. The progression of their relationships with each other and Dru has made this a fabulous and compelling story."- Aizlynne, Goodreads

Praise Connection by Dana Claire

“To begin with The Connection is an interesting book to wrap your head around, the opening chapter leaves patches and mystery which I find a good thing, it dragged me in and made me want to figure out why this dystopian time was like what it was. The main characters name is Beatrice Walker and the story, though not followed from her perspective, is based all around her. After the next couple of chapters, you get the concept of the whole new world and its so bitter sweet and beautifully unusual that you just want to discover more and more about this story. The made-up memories that are written have so much meaning and you get to experience these moments all over again. Then ending is so amazing, Dana Claire really knows how to leave a reader wanting more.”-John Kerry, Let’s Talk Knowledge “After the first chapter, I could tell that this book was going to resemble The Lux Series. The lux series is one of my all-time favorites, so I was genuinely interested in seeing where the author takes this story. I’m happy to say that I was not disappointed. I honestly couldn’t turn the pages fast enough. One thing I was not anticipating was the never-ending action. I loved how there was never a dull moment, as our main characters seemed to never catch a break. Dana Claire has a way of getting under your skin because Beatrice and Cash have made it to my favourite characters list. I can’t wait to see what the author does next! I really hope it’s the sequel to this novel. That cliff-hanger at the end makes me want to read book two as soon as possible.”- Jessica Marie, The Mermaid Reader “Enthralling and well- crafted story. The author’s descriptions are so vivid you feel as though you are in the book. The plot of the story is suspenseful and hard to predict the next move because right when you think you know what is going to happen the story goes into a different direction. Dana Claire took me on a roller coaster of emotions all the way from the first page. I found myself not being able to stop until I completed the book. The Connection is indeed an outstanding and ingenious read. I eagerly look forward to reading more of her books.”- Chinnie N., Amazon “Sci-fi fantasy can be challenging, but Author Dana Claire did a fabulous job with this novel. The characters are great. They develop throughout the book in such a powerful way. I love Bea, AND I love her with Cash. The Connection is a book I could not wait to read every day. I loved falling into this story because I thought about the plot even when I wasn’t reading it. A telling sign it’s a great novel!”-Hey It’s Carly Rae

Blog Tour ~ Up For Seconds

Up for Seconds: A Second Chance Steamy Romance
Melissa Chambers
(Destiny Dunes, #2)
Publication date: April 27th 2021
Genres: Adult, Contemporary, Romance

He won’t get in her head again…

Tori:

Jack Massey broke my heart. He was jealous and possessive. We were all wrong together—too engrossed, too greedy for one another…like we were each other’s fix.

We made no sense. He’s a stuffy, number-cruncher from a wealthy family, and I’m a hot mess from a trailer park. We’d never work long-term.

He says he wants me back. He needs to let the past stay behind us. I’ve worked too hard this year to get over him. I’ve thrown myself into my work with the kids at the resort. I’ve nurtured friendships with my amazing co-workers. I even tried another relationship. Though Jack’s never left my head or my heart.

Jack:

I screwed up. I’ve paid the price this past year. I quit drinking and became obsessed with my job and working out. I’ve not so much as looked at another woman. Tori’s all I’ve been able to focus on, even after a year

I want her back. It’s not going to be easy. We come from different worlds, and she makes sure I know it at every turn.

I’ve never failed at anything in my life except for my relationship with her, and I don’t intend to lose at that again.

Welcome to Destiny Dunes, where the only thing hotter than the Florida sun is the romance between this resort’s employees. Each book in this steamy series focuses on your favorite romance tropes. Once you enter the gates of Destiny Dunes, you’ll never want to leave!

EXCERPT:

He stands up and holds his hand out to me. “Well, I’m not ready to let this go. Come into the water with me.”

I wipe the sand off my hands and then take his hand. He pulls me up, and I follow him into the surf.

“Wow, look at that sunset,” he says.

I’m embarrassed that I hadn’t even noticed. I’ve been too caught up in him. “That’s a beautiful one.”

“Do you know what they say about first kisses under a sunset like that?” he asks.

My chest sears with anticipation. “What do they say?”

“That they’re pretty damn amazing.”

I wish I could stop my stupid grin, but there’s no way. “It’s not our first kiss.”

He takes my hand. “It is for this go-around.”

“I think we skipped past kisses last weekend.”

“We just did things a little out of order. We still get to have our second first kiss.”

“Lucky us.”

He looks down at my hand and takes it as the water washes over our calves. The longer he hesitates to kiss me, the more buildup rolls through my body like a big rig. He takes my other hand as well, still not looking into my eyes. I can’t tell if he’s nervous or trying to make me collapse with want.
